Uche tackles water scarcity in Guma I

Assemblyman Peter Uche, member of the Benue State House of Assembly (APC/Guma I), says he is addressing acute water scarcity in some communities in his constituency.

Uche made the remarks in an interview with reporters on Friday in Makurdi, noting that several communities have long suffered from inadequate water supply.

He explained that the terrain in one community made sinking boreholes difficult, but he is determined to change that.

“A legislator’s role is to make meaningful contributions in the House toward development,” Uche said.

Beyond sponsoring bills and moving motions, especially on security issues, he has initiated projects to ease his constituents’ challenges.

“I have also been able to touch the lives of my constituents directly. For example, I initiated a snakebite treatment support scheme at St. Teresa Hospital, working with the doctors there, and we have saved lives through that intervention.

“In terms of projects, I have facilitated the drilling of boreholes in Yogbo and Daudu. I am also scheduled to drill another on April 20 in Ortese, where borehole drilling has been very difficult. I am determined to break that jinx.

“I have engaged water engineers with the capacity to handle that terrain, and this project will be one of my biggest achievements in my two years in the House.

“There is also another location currently under survey for drilling. My focus has largely been on the welfare of my people, especially considering the challenges they face due to displacement from lingering insecurity,” he stated.
