President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Lebara Nigeria on its official launch, describing the milestone as a strong vote of confidence in Nigeria’s digital economy.
In a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson Mr Bayo Onanuga on Saturday in Abuja, Tinubu said the development reinforces Nigeria’s position as a leading technology and investment destination in Africa.
He stressed that Nigeria’s telecommunications sector remains a key driver of economic growth, recording 5.78 per cent year-on-year growth in the third quarter of 2025 and contributing more than 14 per cent to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“Nigeria’s telecommunications sector is a significant economic driver, with a 5.78 per cent year-on-year growth in Q3 2025 and an overall contribution of over 14 per cent to the nation’s GDP,” the president stated.
Tinubu commended the leadership and partners of Lebara Nigeria for their commitment to expanding telecommunications access across the country. He specifically praised the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Teniola Stuffman.
He noted that such investments create employment opportunities, strengthen digital infrastructure, deepen financial inclusion, foster innovation, and accelerate overall economic growth.
The president acknowledged the presence and support of the British High Commission at the launch, highlighting the attendance of Deputy High Commissioner Mr Jonny Baxter as a reflection of the strong diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Tinubu also recognized the contributions of the Chairman of the Advisory Board, Bimbo Ashiru, and other board members, saying their leadership and expertise demonstrate confidence in Nigeria’s economic potential.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining a stable and investment-friendly business environment, and assured continued support for policies that promote innovation and private-sector growth.
The president wished Lebara Nigeria success as it begins commercial operations in the country and called for stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors to advance Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
