Former Anambra assembly chief whip, Ezeudu dumps APC for ADC

A former Chief Whip of the Anambra State House of Assembly and representative of the Dunukofia Constituency, Lawrence Ezeudu, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Ezeudu’s defection was formalised through a letter addressed to the ADC Chairman of Ifitedunu Ward 2, Lawrence Akoba, during a brief event held at the former lawmaker’s residence in Umanugwo village, Ifitedunu, on Sunday.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the event, Ezeudu blamed his exit on the APC’s persistent internal crisis and what he described as “poor leadership” at both local and state levels.

“After careful reflection of activities, crisis, divisions and poor leadership of the APC at the local government and the state levels, I have decided to step away from the party,” he said.

The former lawmaker stated that the endless crisis within the APC had crippled its chances of effective political participation, both in the state and nationally.

“My defection to the ADC became necessary because that is the platform that will offer me the opportunity to serve the people of my constituency better, and also Anambra, as well as the South-East and Nigeria in general,” he added.

Ezeudu used the occasion to express full support for ADC’s national leadership and its presidential hopeful, former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Anambra State has experienced political turbulence in recent years because of a lack of connection to the right party. I defected to support my brother, Peter Obi, to actualise his vision of a new Nigeria,” he declared.

Describing the ADC as a movement, Ezeudu added, “ADC is now a new religion in Nigeria and which is why we are desperate to see Nigeria work, because leadership is about accountability.”

He said his defection would pave the way for the total liberation of the Ifitedunu community, Dunukofia Local Government Area, and Anambra State.

While presenting the party card to Ezeudu, ADC Ward Chairman Lawrence Akoba welcomed him into the fold, declaring him the leader of the party in Dunukofia LGA.

Akoba pledged that the party would deliver victories in the 2027 general elections and beyond, describing Ezeudu’s entry as a major boost for the ADC in the region.

The defection event drew a crowd of political supporters and stakeholders, including members from APC, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and the Labour Party, who joined Ezeudu in switching allegiance to the ADC.
