Sokoto State Governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu, on Wednesday, presented a ₦758.7 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, with a strong emphasis on capital development, security, health, education and economic growth.
Presenting the proposal, tagged “Budget of Socio-Economic Expansion,” the governor said the spending plan was shaped by inputs from citizens across the state’s three senatorial zones and reflects the administration’s nine-point smart agenda.
According to the breakdown, the total budget size is ₦758.7 billion, with ₦551.49 billion (72%) allocated to capital expenditure and ₦207.21 billion (28%) to recurrent spending, a structure the governor said aligns with international best practices.

The proposed revenue sources include ₦389.3 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), ₦74.5 billion from internally generated revenue, and ₦233.8 billion from capital receipts comprising grants and development funds.
Security received one of the largest sectoral allocations, with over ₦45.26 billion earmarked for the procurement of security equipment, vehicles and other logistics to support security agencies across the state.
In the health sector, the governor proposed an allocation of ₦122.73 billion, representing over 16 percent of the total budget, exceeding the Abuja Declaration benchmark. Key priorities include completion of the Sokoto State University Teaching Hospital, Murtala Muhammad Hospital, and specialist hospitals in Binji, Tambuwal and Sabon Birni, alongside procurement of ambulances and medical equipment and recruitment of health personnel.
Education was allocated ₦115.95 billion, covering basic, science and higher education, while agriculture is to receive ₦18.74 billion for fertilizers, tractors, grains and other farm inputs to boost food production.
Water resources projects, including rehabilitation of township water works and rural water supply schemes, were allocated ₦41.14 billion, while works and transportation, mainly road construction and rehabilitation, will receive ₦109.13 billion.
The governor also disclosed that ₦33.9 billion was set aside for humanitarian services, poverty reduction and youth empowerment programmes.
Governor Aliyu told lawmakers that the state has not borrowed to finance its projects and is not indebted to contractors, urging the Assembly to give the budget expedited consideration in the interest of socio-economic development.
