The Revive Belgian Mission, in collaboration with the Katsina State Government, has carried out 118 free surgeries, 2,010 medical consultations, and 146 dental extractions during a two-week free medical outreach in the state.

Dr. Herman De Gazelle, President of the mission, announced the figures at the closing ceremony of the exercise, organized by the state government to recognize the mission’s contributions to healthcare.

De Gazelle said the outreach had exceeded its initial targets. “We initially planned 80 surgeries, 1,000 medical consultations, and 60 dental extractions. By the end of the mission, we had conducted 118 surgeries, 2,010 consultations, and 146 dental extractions,” he stated.

Reports indicated that some of the surgeries addressed hernia, hydrocele, and gynecological conditions, among others.

In his remarks, Governor Dikko Radda said between 80 and 90 percent of the beneficiaries came from rural communities. “This mission went far beyond its targets. For many beneficiaries, this was their only opportunity to receive life-changing treatment,” he added.

The Governor reiterated his administration’s vision to position Katsina as a medical hub supporting referrals, health tourism, and advanced care delivery. He noted that the partnership with the Revive Belgian Mission would extend to hospital management, training, research, and professional development opportunities for students and medical personnel.

Radda also announced that the next phase of collaboration would prioritize cancer detection and treatment, with particular emphasis on breast cancer. “Early detection and timely treatment are critical, and we are fully committed to this cause,” he assured.

The Governor further revealed that the state is developing a modern imaging center with advanced diagnostic facilities, expected to rank among the best in the country. “This collaboration will also support the training of our doctors on modern diagnostic equipment, ensuring effective utilization and improved accuracy in diagnosis,” he said.

He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s vision to make Katsina a medical destination, providing quality healthcare services to residents and patients from neighboring states.
