UNIMAID graduates urged to reconnect, support Alma mater

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) Alumni Forum, Abuja Chapter, has called for greater unity among graduates to enhance their impact on the institution and its students.

The appeal was made on Saturday in Abuja during the 9th edition of the forum’s quarterly walkout and networking event, tagged “Reawakening Walk 2.0.”

President of the forum, Shettima Kukawa, urged all UNIMAID graduates residing in Abuja to identify with the association, unite, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the university.

Kukawa said the reawakening walk was designed to mobilize members and encourage active participation.

“There is a need for all of us to come together, unite, and make an impact on both the school and the students,” he said.

“We are trying to bring our people together. Only when we achieve that can we make the necessary impact on the university and its students. Many who graduated from UNIMAID and live in Abuja have never even met. This programme helps us connect with one another.”

He advised Abuja-based alumni to socialise and build strong networks that would strengthen the association and support their alma mater.

“The university recently marked its 50th anniversary, yet the alumni association still faces challenges—particularly low participation. We are working to raise awareness on why active involvement is important and how coming together benefits both members and the university,” he added.

Secretary of the forum, Maimuna Abdullahi, explained that the “Reawakening Walk” was not merely an exercise but an opportunity for graduates to meet, reconnect, and build relationships.

“This forum is more than just a walk. It is a platform to bring everyone together. In Abuja, everyone is busy, and we rarely meet. This helps bridge that gap,” she said.

A former president of the forum, Hamisu Medugu, also emphasized the importance of unity and networking, noting that such engagements strengthen friendships and build a better future for members.
