A total of 240 students will graduate with First Class honours as the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) holds its 36th Convocation Ceremony.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, disclosed this on Friday, November 7, 2025, during a press briefing heralding the week-long convocation activities.
Out of the 2,747 graduating students, 1,479 will bag Second Class (Upper Division), 912 will graduate with Second Class (Lower Division), while 116 will receive Third Class degrees.
The Best Graduating Student, Akindunbi Aduragbemi Isaac of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, emerged with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.98 out of 5.00. He will deliver the valedictory speech on behalf of his set on Friday, November 14, 2025.
Professor Oladiji also announced that 867 graduands will receive higher degrees comprising 86 Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD), 627 Master of Technology (MTech), and 154 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
She further revealed that the Convocation Lecture, titled “Strategies and Tactics for Solving Skills Challenges in Nigeria: The Roles of Government, Institutions, and the Youth,” will be delivered by Prince Adetokunbo Kayode (SAN), a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Labour.
Speaking on the progress of the institution under her leadership, Professor Oladiji, in a presentation titled “FUTA at the Next Level,” said the university has been successfully repositioned for a sustainable future built on academic excellence, financial sustainability, global competitiveness, and inclusive growth.
“We have strengthened our global presence through active research collaborations and international exchanges. Our faculty and researchers have undertaken study and research visits to Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany, enhancing expertise and fostering cross-border knowledge sharing,” she said.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted FUTA’s growing reputation through international partnerships, global alumni networks, patents, research awards, and sporting achievements, which she said have expanded the university’s influence and visibility beyond national borders.
She noted ongoing collaborations with industries and research institutions, including Green Energy International Limited and LekOil Joint Venture, under the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB). The five-year joint research initiative focuses on advancing hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation in the Otakikpo Field, Niger Delta, with FUTA staff serving as lead researchers.
Professor Oladiji commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the university’s Visitor, for approving the establishment of a Teaching Hospital for FUTA, a ₦1 billion Federal Government special intervention for agricultural commercial farming, and the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), all of which she said will strengthen the university’s academic and social impact.
She also lauded the university’s staff, students, alumni, and the Governing Council led by Senator Nora Daduut, for their support and contributions to the institution’s steady progress.
Concluding, Professor Oladiji affirmed FUTA’s position as a key player in global academia, saying:
