The Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture has started signing up farmers for its new program called “Produce for Lagos.”
The Agriculture Commissioner, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, shared this news in a statement on Friday.
She explained that the program wants to grow more food for Lagos by letting farmers sell directly to the government at fixed prices.
She said Lagos has over 24 million people, making it the biggest food consumer in Nigeria.
She added that the program will help farmers sell their food easily, reduce waste, keep food prices steady, and help farmers make more money.
The program will also help Lagos trade food with other states, move food around better, and make the whole food system stronger.
She said the plan is to grow food in Lagos and also work with farmers in other states that produce a lot of food.
She said that by signing up, farmers will be added to a main list that will help the government plan and give support when needed.
She asked farmers to register online using the official link or the ministry’s website.
