The head of the Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC), Dr. Abdulmumin Aminu-Zaria, says the ACReSAL Marketplace Project is helping to develop communities and improve lives in Nigeria.
According to a statement by Fatima Yusuf, the NIWRMC Head of Press and Public Relations, Dr. Aminu-Zaria made this comment at the ACReSAL Marketplace Project event themed “Greening the Environment, Saving Lives.”
The event brought together partners such as the World Bank, and federal ministries responsible for water resources, sanitation, agriculture, food security, and the environment.
Dr. Aminu-Zaria said the ACReSAL project has given important support to the commission, making a big difference in two key areas of its work.
“First, it helped us create 20 Strategic Catchment Management Plans for five Northern water areas in Nigeria. These plans help us manage water resources better and solve environmental problems locally,” he said.
“Second, ACReSAL helped us set up a Hydrological Modelling Centre. This centre helps us study different water scenarios, which is very important for making smart decisions about water use, flood control, and preventing drought.”
He said both efforts have greatly improved the commission’s ability to manage water resources properly using modern and sustainable methods.
He added that working with ACReSAL has improved how water is managed across the region, brought people and organizations together, and encouraged sustainable growth in water catchment areas.
Dr. Aminu-Zaria said these efforts are helping to build a stronger water management system that ensures fair access to water and protects the environment for future generations.
He said the commission truly values its partnership with ACReSAL, especially for its role in supporting climate action, water management, and improving people’s livelihoods.
“As we keep working together, we are committed to making sure these projects lead to long-lasting benefits for both the people and the environment in Nigeria,” he said.
