The Federal Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, working with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), has inaugurated the National Energy Masterplan Implementation Committee (NEMIC) to drive energy efficiency in the country.

The Director-General of ECN, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, said the National Energy Masterplan is a comprehensive guide designed to ensure Nigeria’s energy security.

He explained that the masterplan would also expand access to reliable electricity, promote renewable energy, and help reduce the nation’s carbon footprint in line with global climate goals.

Delivering his keynote address, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mr.Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to modernizing the energy sector. He said this would be achieved through stronger public-private partnerships and by promoting local innovations in energy technologies.

The Minister added that NEMIC’s work would be crucial in ensuring Nigeria’s energy infrastructure meets the demands of industrial growth, rising population, and environmental sustainability.

Speaking on behalf of the committee members, the Co-Chairman for Portfolio Management, Mr. Nuruddeen Yakubu, thanked the ministry for the opportunity and pledged their commitment to achieving the masterplan’s goals.

The inauguration was described as a milestone in Nigeria’s energy reform journey and highlighted the Federal Government’s determination to deliver a sustainable energy transition under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The event was attended by senior government officials, development partners, private sector representatives, civil society groups, and international stakeholders, all of whom expressed strong support for the masterplan’s implementation.

Goodwill messages from development partners and ministries reflected a shared commitment to building strong institutions, mobilizing investments, and strengthening technical capacity to make the plan successful.
