The Federal Government has inaugurated the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) to coordinate activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day Anniversary, scheduled for October 1, 2025.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, said the anniversary should not only be a remembrance of the past but also an inspiration for the future. He stressed that the celebration was an opportunity to renew patriotism, foster unity, and encourage citizens to actively contribute to nation-building.
A programme of events was also unveiled, beginning with a World Press Conference on September 25. Other activities include:
- September 26: Juma’at Service and Women’s Day activities
- September 27: Youth Engagements and Historical Arts Exhibition
- September 28: Church Service
- September 29: Public Lecture
- October 1: Presidential Broadcast and Independence Day Parade
In addition, the SGF launched the “Nigeria @ 65 Compendium Project workstation,” developed in partnership with CherryAfrica Magazine. The facility will serve as a media hub to document and showcase milestones in governance and development, while also hosting an interview series with top government officials.
Akume noted that the initiative would highlight achievements across various sectors and promote public confidence in the country’s leadership as Nigeria marks 65 years of independence.
