Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has encouraged organisations in Nigeria to use new and emerging technologies to help achieve the country’s goals.
He shared this message on Monday during the annual conference of the Nigerian Institute of Management Chartered (NIM), which focused on the theme: ‘Using Emerging Technologies to Boost Innovation, Creativity, and Productivity.’

Akume, who was represented by Mr. Francis Ikyenge, a Director in his office, said that technology is key to a country’s success and relevance in today’s world.
He advised organisations to adopt new technologies because they can help turn problems into opportunities and support steady progress in different parts of the economy.
Akume noted that Nigeria’s young population and its fast-growing digital economy make it especially important to talk about how the country can benefit from new technologies.
He explained that Nigeria has a special chance to use technology to improve productivity in areas like government, farming, industry, education, healthcare, and services.
“Innovation and creativity, when supported by technology, can make things work better, lower costs, increase transparency, and ultimately improve people’s lives,” Akume said.
He pointed out that President Bola Tinubu’s government has shown strong support for using new technologies to bring about change, encourage innovation, and improve productivity.
Akume also mentioned that by focusing on areas like artificial intelligence, digital banking, renewable energy, and innovation centres for youth, President Tinubu is helping Nigeria keep up with global tech trends.
He praised the NIM for organizing the conference, calling it a good platform that helps shape Nigeria’s place in the global knowledge-driven economy.
Akume added that the Federal Government is committed to building a supportive environment for innovation. This includes investing in digital infrastructure, training, research, and partnerships with businesses and universities.
He stressed that everyone must work together to make the best use of emerging technologies to help Nigeria achieve its national goals.
NIM President, retired Commodore Abimbola Ayuba, also spoke at the event. He said that smart countries and organisations must use technology to stay creative, innovative, and productive.
Ayuba described the annual conference as the institute’s most important event, saying it plays a key role in supporting Nigeria’s development.
He explained that the ideas and discussions from the conference would be turned into strategies and advice, which NIM would present to the government and other leaders to help Nigeria become a tech-driven nation.
Ayuba also talked about the importance of peace, saying that real progress cannot happen in a country facing conflict or insecurity.
“The Institute encourages all Nigerians to work together with the current government to move the country forward,” he said.
He urged professionals to show discipline, efficiency, honesty, fairness, and transparency both in their personal lives and at work.
“It’s only when we give our best that we can truly help our country grow,” Ayuba concluded.
