The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has announced that many parts of the country will experience thunderstorms and rainfall between Monday and Wednesday.

In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency said that on Monday morning, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall will affect parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe States in the North.

Later in the day, more thunderstorms are expected in Bauchi, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina, Adamawa, Taraba, and Borno States.

For the central region, NiMet said light morning rains are likely in Plateau and Niger States, before thunderstorms with moderate rains spread across Nasarawa, Benue, Niger, Plateau, Kogi, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by afternoon and evening.

In the South, cloudy skies are expected on Monday morning with chances of light rains in Cross River and Akwa Ibom. By afternoon and evening, light rains will also fall in Abia, Edo, Imo, Ebonyi, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.

On Tuesday, NiMet forecasts morning thunderstorms with moderate rains over Bauchi, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, Borno, Yobe, and Kebbi States. Later in the day, thunderstorms are likely in Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Adamawa, Taraba, and Zamfara States.

In the central region, cloudy skies and light morning rains are expected in Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Kwara, and the FCT. By afternoon and evening, widespread thunderstorms will follow.

For the southern region on Tuesday, Cross River and Akwa Ibom may see light rains in the morning, while Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Abia, Imo, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States should prepare for moderate rains later in the day.

On Wednesday, cloudy skies with sunshine breaks are expected in the North, with morning rains in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Kaduna. Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall will spread across most northern states later in the day.

In the central region, light rains are likely in Niger, Kwara, and the FCT in the morning, followed by thunderstorms with light rains in the afternoon and evening across the FCT, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, Niger, and Nasarawa.

For the South, NiMet expects moderate rainfall throughout the day across most states.

The agency advised the public to stay safe during the weather changes. People are urged to avoid driving when rain is heavy, while farmers should not apply fertilizers or pesticides just before rainfall to prevent waste.

NiMet also advised the public to wear warm clothing, secure loose objects to avoid wind damage, and disconnect electrical appliances during storms. People should avoid sheltering under tall trees to prevent injuries from falling branches.

Airline operators were also advised to get airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for proper flight planning.
