Former Zamfara Central Senator, Kabiru Garba Marafa, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of betraying loyal supporters after using them to win the 2023 elections.
Marafa, who coordinated the Tinubu-Shettima campaign in Zamfara, said the president abandoned the state and sidelined its people despite their sacrifices.
The decision followed a two-day meeting of the Senator Kabiru Marafa Consultative Forum in Kaduna, where supporters from all 14 local government areas of Zamfara resolved to leave the ruling party.
In a communique, the Forum described Tinubu’s style as “use-and-dump politics,” stressing that Zamfara delivered votes for him in 2023 even without his campaign presence, yet has received little in return.
They lamented that Zamfara remains the epicenter of kidnappings and banditry, recording frequent attacks, abductions, and killings, while the federal government only shows presence during elections.
The group also faulted the allocation of only a Minister of State position to Zamfara, unlike other Northwest states that secured senior portfolios. Victims of banditry, they added, have been neglected while other states get direct interventions and relief.
As a result, Marafa’s entire political structure across Zamfara’s 147 wards has withdrawn from the APC, citing “injustice, mistrust, marginalisation, and deliberate neglect.”
The senator, however, said consultations are ongoing to determine his next political destination, promising an announcement soon.
