Security agents have arrested and seized ₦25.96 million from an agent for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), allegedly intended to induce voters in the Kaduna State’s Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency by-election.
The accused, identified as Shehu Aliyu Patangi, was arrested early Friday (around 3:30 a.m.) at a hotel along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis. The Department of State Services (DSS), in coordination with the Nigeria Police Force, carried out the operation. A total of ₦25,963,000 was recovered from Patangi during the arrest .
Kaduna Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan issued a statement confirming that Patangi had plotted to use the funds to influence voters. Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted his intent and requested leniency .
Commissioner of Police CP Rabiu Muhammad commended the swift collaboration among security agencies, warning that anyone—regardless of political affiliation—found attempting to corrupt the electoral process would face rigorous enforcement of the law. He also assured citizens of the commitment to ensuring peaceful and credible by-elections in Kaduna State .
This arrest comes as part of heightened security measures aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the by-election in the Chikun/Kajuru constituency.
