On Friday morning, a British Airways flight (BA052 from Abuja to London Heathrow) experienced an unexpected issue when a faulty aircraft door was detected during pre-flight checks.
Michael Achimugu, spokesperson for the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), confirmed that safety protocols required that seats in the vicinity of the malfunctioning door be kept unoccupied, which resulted in 58 passengers being denied boarding.
Accommodations were made for the affected travelers: hotel lodging was provided, and while 30 passengers agreed to continue their journey the following day, 28 opted to return home.
Achimugu also emphasized the importance of seeking help promptly in such scenarios, advising that “the first resort in situations like this is to locate the NCAA Consumer Protection Officers at the terminal, and they will ensure that your right to care is protected (if the airline delays).”
