The Board of Directors of the Uganda Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (UFAAS) on Thursday held a strategic meeting with the new Executive Director of the African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS), Dr. Lilian Lihasi, at the AFAAS Secretariat boardroom in Ntinda, Kampala.
The engagement was aimed at introducing the Uganda Country Forum leadership to Dr. Lihasi, who recently assumed office as AFAAS Executive Director. AFAAS is a continental umbrella body that coordinates and supports agricultural extension and advisory services across Africa.
During the meeting, Dr. Lihasi commended UFAAS for its active contribution to the growth and consolidation of AFAAS, especially through its strong country-level engagement. She emphasized the importance of vibrant country fora, noting that “all AFAAS country fora should be able to strongly support their members to ensure effective service delivery.”
She also noted that the meeting was part of a broader consultative process AFAAS is undertaking with its member country fora to identify current issues and potential opportunities that can be harnessed to strengthen national platforms.
In his remarks, UFAAS Chairperson, Dr. Richard Miiro, expressed appreciation to the AFAAS Executive Director for honoring the invitation and briefed her on some of the ongoing agricultural advisory and capacity-building projects implemented by UFAAS in Uganda.
Dr. Lihasi further encouraged UFAAS to promote digital tools and technological innovation among its members to improve last-mile delivery of advisory services to farmers.
The meeting marked a renewed commitment to deepening collaboration between AFAAS and its country-level stakeholders in pursuit of effective agricultural extension systems in Africa.
