The Jigawa State Government has urged local government councils (LGAs) to safeguard grazing lands and cattle migration routes from encroachment, in a bid to reduce farmer-herder clashes.
The Chairman of the Jigawa State Farmers/Herdsmen Conflict Resolution Committee, Dr. Salisu Abdullahi made this call during a familiarisation tour of the Auyo and Kafinhausa LGAs.
He said the move would reinforce government efforts to protect lives and property and promote peaceful coexistence in the state.
Abdullahi noted that the Umar Namadi administration has launched initiatives to support farmers and herders in agribusiness. These initiatives are designed to foster self-reliance and encourage sustainable social and economic development.
He advised LGAs to maintain a 30-meter clearance along main roads, allowing for easier grazing and livestock movement. He also encouraged councils to support local conflict resolution committees.
“This has become necessary to ensure effective protection of grazing lands, cattle routes, and roadside corridors,” Abdullahi said.
Both Binyaminu Kafur, Chairman of Auyo LGA, and Abdullahi Nalayi, Chairman of Kafinhausa LGA, reaffirmed their commitment to preserving grazing lands and livestock routes.
The District Head of Bulangu, Ibrahim Suleiman commended the state government for its efforts in promoting harmony between farmers and pastoralists. He pledged full support for governmental policies and programs aimed at sustaining peace and stability.
