The National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Dar Al-Halal Farm to establish a meat hub aimed at boosting meat production in Nigeria.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Mrs. Toyin Omozuwa, Press Secretary to the NBRDA Director-General, in Abuja.
The agreement was jointly signed on Thursday in Abuja by Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, Director-General of NBRDA, and Muhammadu Ladan, Chief Executive Officer of Dar Al-Halal Farm.
The initiative is intended to meet local meat consumption demands while positioning Nigeria as a competitive exporter of high-quality meat products.
According to the statement, the partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving food security through the use of innovative agricultural biotechnology.
Under the terms of the agreement, NBRDA will provide technical services in several key areas, including microbial interaction research, animal breeding using modern biotechnology, meat quality and safety, foodborne pathogen detection and control using molecular techniques, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and animal health and disease prevention.
Dar Al-Halal Farm will lead the development of the meat hub in Nigeria and ensure all regulatory requirements are met. The company will also support the renovation and equipping of relevant laboratories at NBRDA.
At the signing event, Professor Mustapha stated that the partnership represents a strategic step toward strengthening livestock production and improving food security in the country.
“Through this collaboration with Dar Al-Halal Farm, we can harness modern biotechnology techniques to drive economic growth and improve livelihoods,” he said.
Ladan also expressed optimism about the partnership, noting that the collaboration would help meet domestic meat needs while bolstering Nigeria’s standing in the global meat export market.
