An Bauchi-based endocrinologist, Dr Ayuba Mugana, has recommended green tea, ginger tea, hibiscus tea and lemon tea for individuals living with diabetes.
Mugana stated this in Tuesday in an interview on Tuesday in Bauchi.
According to him, the teas contain natural compounds that help regulate blood sugar level, saying that they can reduce cholesterol and enhance metabolism.
Mugana, however, cautioned that the teas should not be used as substitutes for prescribed diabetes medication.
“Diabetic patient can combine ginger and other tea substance without sugar to make good tea for themselves.
“While they have health benefits, they are not a replacement for proper medical treatment,” he stated.
The medical expert advised diabetic patients to consume the teas with caution, saying that they might be best taken during breakfast or before bedtime.
