The Niger State Government has suspended the movement of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in Minna from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM daily, in a move to curb rising insecurity in the state capital.
The Niger state governor, Umaru Bago announced the restriction during a security meeting with traditional leaders of Minna Emirate and heads of security agencies, held at the Government House on Tuesday.
The governor who described the ban as a temporary but necessary measure, said it is aimed at addressing growing security threats in Minna.
He, however noted that the restriction does not apply to those on medical emergencies.
The governor who emphasized the government’s responsibility to protect lives and property, warning that criminal activities will no longer be tolerated.
He equally directed traditional leaders—District, Village, and Ward Heads—to properly document residents in their communities.
He stressed that any building found to be harbouring criminals or serving as a hub for illicit drug sales will be demolished.
“We will not fold our arms and watch criminals terrorize our people,” Bago said. “Every leader must take responsibility. Security is a collective duty.”
He also called on security agencies to intensify efforts in raiding criminal hideouts and dismantling syndicates operating within the city.
The governor urged parents to caution their children, warning that anyone found involved in violent acts would face the full wrath of the law.
