Over 100 young students in Sokoto State now have a dream of pursuing a career in nursing, midwifery, or health sciences, thanks to the Attahiru Bafarawa Foundation “Giving Back Initiative.”
At separate ceremonies held at Gamji College of Nursing Sciences and Al-Hudah College of Health Technology in Sokoto, students gathered with excitement and gratitude as they received their scholarship award letters.
The Chairman of the Foundation’s Steering Committee, Muhammad Lawal Maidoki, Sadaukin Sakkwato, handed over the letters to the institutions’ management, emphasizing that this initiative is more than just financial support—it’s a commitment to the future of healthcare in Sokoto and beyond.
“Each of these students will receive at least ₦600,000 in scholarship support. They have worked hard to earn this recognition, and I have no doubt they will make a meaningful impact in the healthcare sector,” Maidoki stated.
He also called on other philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to support similar causes, highlighting that education, healthcare, and community welfare remain top priorities for the Foundation.
For Sagir Attahiru Bafarawa, Secretary of the Foundation’s Main Committee, the scholarship program is deeply personal. He explained that the initiative was inspired by the founder, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa’s desire to give back to the people who supported him during his tenure as Sokoto State Governor.
“Your passion for healthcare and your dedication to improving lives have earned you this opportunity. This scholarship is not just about education—it is an investment in our future, in the future of healthcare, and in the well-being of our communities,” he told the students.
Sagir also shared that the Foundation has plans to execute ₦10 million worth of developmental projects in each of Sokoto’s 23 local government areas, further demonstrating its commitment to community development.
For the management of the two institutions, the scholarship program is a beacon of hope. Kabiru Muhammad S. Gobir, Proprietor of Gamji College of Nursing Sciences, and Hamza Isah Gwadabawa, Proprietor of Al-Hudah College of Health Technology, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Foundation for making such an impact on the lives of young people.
“This is not just an act of generosity—it is an investment in human lives. These students will go on to become nurses, midwives, and healthcare professionals who will save lives and care for our communities,” one of the proprietors noted.
They urged the scholarship recipients to make the most of this opportunity, stay committed to their studies, and uphold the values of hard work and discipline.
The event was more than a formal scholarship presentation—it was a celebration of possibilities and hope. Students, some of whom had been struggling to afford tuition, expressed gratitude for the life-changing opportunity.
With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), scholarship agreements, and the issuance of payment cheques, the journey toward empowering Sokoto’s next generation of healthcare professionals has officially begun.
