A Veterinary Doctor in Bauchi state, Haliru Sani, has cautioned pet owners about the potential health risks to animals during the harmattan season.
Sani gave the warning in an interview on Friday in Bauchi.
Sani explained that the harmattan season could have a negative impact on the health of animals, increasing the risk of mortality, disturbing their daily rhythms, and making them more susceptible to viral diseases.
To mitigate these risks, Sani advised animal owners to take necessary precautions, including providing adequate shelter, food, and water.
“Also, ensure regular veterinary care and monitor animals closely for signs of illness or distress.
“By taking proactive steps, animal owners can help reduce the risk of health problems and ensure the well-being of their animals,” Sani said.
He, however, urged the government to provide veterinary hospitals with modern equipment across the state for the health of animals.
