Trump reverses nearly 80 Biden-era policies with sweeping executive orders

In a dramatic return to the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday made bold moves to dismantle key policies of the Biden administration, signing several executive orders just hours after his swearing-in as the 47th President of the United States. Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., Trump announced the revocation of “nearly 80 destructive radical executive actions” enacted by his predecessor, Joe Biden.

“I’m revoking nearly 80 destructive radical executive actions of the previous administration,” Trump declared to the crowd during the signing ceremony. Among the policies targeted, the president specifically highlighted climate, energy, and international agreements.

In one of his first executive orders, Trump declared a national energy emergency, emphasizing his administration’s intent to reduce energy costs by boosting domestic fossil fuel production. The declaration is expected to leverage emergency powers to ramp up oil and gas production across the nation.
“We will drill, baby, drill,” Trump said. “The United States has something no other manufacturing nation has — the largest amount of oil and gas of any country on Earth — and we are going to use it.”

As the world’s largest producer of crude oil, and natural gas, and top exporter of liquified natural gas (LNG), the U.S. is poised to expand its dominance in the global energy market under Trump’s leadership.

Trump also announced the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, marking the second time the nation has exited the landmark international accord under his leadership.
“The Paris Climate Accord has always been about crippling American energy and industry while letting other countries pollute freely,” Trump said.

The Paris Agreement, adopted in December 2015, was a collective effort to combat global warming. The U.S. first exited the accord under Trump’s initial term in 2020, only to rejoin under President Biden in 2021. Trump’s latest move reignites debates over America’s role in addressing climate change on the global stage.

Another notable executive order temporarily halts the TikTok ban imposed by Biden’s administration. Trump stated, “I am delaying the TikTok ban by 75 days to permit my administration an opportunity to determine the appropriate course of action with respect to TikTok.”

Trump also signed an order to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO), a decision mirroring his actions during his first term. The president criticized the organization’s handling of global health crises and alleged biases favouring China.

Trump’s sweeping executive orders signal a sharp pivot in U.S. policy and a return to his signature “America First” agenda. These moves are expected to reignite debates domestically and internationally, particularly on issues related to climate change, energy independence, and global health.

As Trump vowed to focus on bolstering the economy and reducing regulatory burdens, his administration’s initial actions underscore a stark departure from the priorities of the Biden era. The effects of these decisions will unfold in the coming months as the nation adjusts to the return of Trump’s leadership.
