The Itsekiri Defense Council (IDC) has declared unwavering support for the Niger Delta Liberation Movement (NDLM) in their fight against the oppression of the Itsekiri people. General Iwedundun Akpakpa, leader of the IDC, strongly denounced the continued marginalization of the Itsekiri community and issued stern warnings to those complicit in their plight.
General Akpakpa commended NDLM for their tireless efforts in advocating for the rights and well-being of the Itsekiri people. He pledged IDC’s full support, including intelligence and logistical assistance, to aid the organization in addressing the challenges facing the community. “Our loyalty to NDLM is unwavering,” Akpakpa affirmed, emphasizing the need for collective action to end the systemic oppression of the Itsekiri.
In a scathing critique, General Akpakpa singled out political contractors allegedly collaborating with Chevron Nigeria Limited to suppress the Itsekiri populace. He warned that such actions would face severe consequences. “The selfish interests of corrupt politicians must not compromise the development and prosperity of the Itsekiri and the Warri Kingdom,” Akpakpa declared.
The IDC’s secretary, Mr. Amorighoye B. Aboyowa, also cautioned against political contractors who align with Chevron to undermine the efforts of NDLM. He called on these individuals to desist from such activities and condemned any attempts to tarnish the reputation of NDLM. “Those pursuing personal gains at the expense of our people are unwelcome in the kingdom,” Aboyowa stated emphatically.
In a bold move, General Akpakpa declared all political contractors and supporters of Chevron operating within the Warri Kingdom as persona non grata. He stressed that the Itsekiri community would no longer tolerate exploitation or disregard by Chevron or any other corporate entity.
The IDC further warned that failure by corporations to address the grievances of Itsekiri youths could lead to escalated tensions, including incidents of pipeline vandalism. The council called for accountability and fairness in dealings with the community to foster peace and development.
This declaration marks a significant stand by the IDC and the Itsekiri people, who demand justice, equity, and respect from corporations operating within their lands. With their full backing of NDLM, the IDC has sent a clear message that the oppression of the Itsekiri will no longer be met with silence or inaction.
