The Renaissance Patriots have commended the Federal Government for its decision to release monthly allocations directly to constitutionally recognized Local Government Areas (LGAs) through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
In a statement signed by the group’s President, Bolaji Are, and Secretary General, Yomi Tokosi, the Patriots praised the move as a significant step toward strengthening governance at the grassroots level.
“We can now hold the elected members of the LGAs accountable for their actions and failures,” the statement read. “This is what we have been advocating for—a system where funds meant for local governments are directly accessible to them, ensuring better service delivery to the people.”
The group also expressed hope that state governments would fulfill their obligations by providing counterpart funding to support the LGAs, particularly in Lagos State, where the allocations were made directly to the 20 recognized local government authorities as mandated by the Constitution.
They pledged to monitor the administration of the funds to prevent any “backdoor arrangements” that might undermine the autonomy of LGA chairmen.
“This initiative is a good step forward,” the Patriots said, adding that they look forward to seeing tangible improvements in governance and service delivery at the grassroots level.
