The National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) conducted an engagement meeting with Sokoto’s Commissioner for Health and other health stakeholders to enhance rural emergency and maternal transport services in the state.
The National Coordinator of NEMSAS, Dr. Sa’idu Ahmad Dumbulwa highlighted that the purpose of the visit was to build capacity, raise awareness, and advocate for a better understanding of rural emergency services and maternal transportation.
He noted that the team aimed to address high maternal and newborn mortality rates by promoting a sense of urgency for improved healthcare.
Dr. Dumbulwa emphasized the need for collective efforts to save the lives of pregnant women and newborns, urging all stakeholders to contribute to this cause.
Representing the state Commissioner for Health, Asabe Balarabe, the Director of Administration, Ahmad Abdullahi Goronyo, informed the attendees that Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration has already trained ambulance drivers across the state and established the State Emergency Medical Services Ambulance System at Sokoto’s Specialist Hospital. He also noted that ambulances have been provided to various hospitals and primary healthcare centers statewide.
The Commissioner assured NEMSAS of the government’s full support to achieve the program’s objectives.
The meeting was attended by the Executive Director of the State Hospital Services Management Board, Dr. Bello Abubakar Attahiru, the ministry’s Director of Medical Services, Dr. Adamu Abubakar, and Chief Medical Directors of hospitals, among other stakeholders.
