The Governing Council of Federal University Gusau, FUGUS, has announced Prof. Mu’azu Abubakar Gusau of Usmanu Danfodiyo University as the third substantive Vice-Chancellor.

This is contained in a statement by the Spokesperson of the university, Umar Usman made available to AsheNews on Thursday.

According to the statement, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Mr Yissa Benjamin disclosed the development shortly after the completion of the University’s special council meeting.

Benjamin said the process for the selection of the vice chancellor was through advertisement published in Daily Trust and Punch Newspapers, after which the university received 25 applications from erudite scholars across the country four of which were searched by the University through search team constituted as provided by the law.

“Six out of the total applicants were disqualified as a result of their inability to fulfill the requirements indicated in the advertisement”, the chairman said.

He added that all processes undertaken by the Council were guided by the University Miscellaneous Act 1993, Decree no. 11 and the amendment Act 2003.

Benjamin further stated that the process was also undertaken with full participation of two Principal Officers of Federal Character Commission (FCC) in the state.

According to the Chairman, Prof. Mu’azu Abubakar Gusau scored a total of 79.5%, Prof. Mamman Audu Wasagu 76.5 while Prof. Umar Adamu Danbatta took third position with a total of 75.4% among the nineteen applicants invited for interaction.

“The Council has already approved the appointment of Prof. Mu’azu Abubakar Gusau as the third Vice-Chancellor of FUGUS to serve for a period of five years starting from 10th February, 2020.

“The Registrar of the University will communicate to him of his appointment”, the Chairman further said.

He stated that the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari will also be informed of the development in the University through the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu.

Prof. Gusau is a Professor of Toxicology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto and obtained his P.hD from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom.
