ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Government has signed a tripartite agreement on food production between Niger Foods, Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) and Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Niger State Chapter.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Bologi Ibrahim, the agreement will see Niger Foods supply farm inputs and other implements to interested teachers that will engage in crop production.
The State governor, Mohammed Bago while presiding over the event, commended the Teachers for going into partnership with the firm. .
The governor, who assured them of continuous support also called on other groups and Associations to key into his agricultural revolution describing Agriculture as the only way to address food insecurity.
The governor who expressed optimism that the initiative will foster prosperity among stakeholders in the education sector added that houses and health centres will be built for the teachers which will also bring fortune to the younger generation.
In his remarks, the Chairman Niger Foods, Mr. Sammy Adigun explained that the firm will provide varieties of farm inputs and implements to the benefitting teachers with each farmer to be given packs of sprayer, herbicide and insecticide.
On his part, the Executive Chairman of NSUBEB, the broker agency between the teachers and Niger Foods, Muhammad Ibrahim, said that an appreciable number of the 25,000 teachers across the State including about 3,000 administrators have indicated an interest in the initiative.
The Executive Chairman of NSUBEB said that the initiative will increase food production, add value to teachers and as well reduce the cost of feeding students.
