The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the National Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria (NTRCN), Muhammad Abubakar, has congratulated the new Olubadan of Ibadan Land, Oba Owolabi Olakunlehin, on his coronation and presentation of the Staff of Office by the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Friday, July 12, 2024.
Sultan Abubakar, who also serves as President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), acknowledged Ibadan as a historically significant kingdom of warriors and hospitable people.
He emphasized the importance of successive royal leadership in maintaining the kingdom’s growth and development and expressed his conviction that Oba Olakunlehin is well-suited for the throne at this time.
He praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his ongoing respect for traditional institutions, ensuring that any actions taken by his government regarding such matters are beyond reproach and capable of winning the people’s hearts as traditions demand.

In a statement released by the Media Team of the Sultan on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Sultan Abubakar commended the people of Ibadan Land on the coronation of their new Oba.
He reiterated his commitment to using his chairmanship of the National Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria, co-chaired by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan, to continue mobilizing for peace, unity, harmony, and progress among all Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic backgrounds.
To the new Olubadan, the Sultan said, “On behalf of myself, the Usmaniyyah Throne of Sokoto Caliphate, and all Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, I wish you a healthy and very impactful reign in life.”
