Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon has denied the allegations by a UK lawmaker, Tom Tugendhat that he laundered Nigeria’s money while in office.
Gowon, in an interview with ChannelsTV on Thursday, condemned the lawmaker’s accusation that he looted half of the money in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
“It is certainly surprising, and I am disappointed that a British parliamentarian could make such a statement without checking the facts of what he was saying.
“I honestly was disappointed that such a remark is made,” Gwon told ChannelsTV London correspondent via telephone.
While insisting that he has never been questioned for money laundering, stressed that the allegation was false.
