ASHENEWS reports that the Chairman of Ovia south west local government council in Edo state, Edosa Enowoghomwenma has advocated for the adoption of proper waste disposal and management for a proper hygienic and clean atmosphere.
Enowoghomwenma stated this shorty after receiving an award of excellence from the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Edo State Council as part of activities to mark the 2024 world press freedom day.
The council chairman urged journalists to prioritize issues around the environment in their reportage stressing that the world was currently being ravaged by various environmental crisis.
On the part of his council, the chairman said that the council’s administration has since inception prioritized proper refuse disposal, to avoid polluting the environment.
According to him, his administration evacuated refuse dumps which have been abandoned for the past fifteen years across his council.
“We are launching the second phase in few week, by then, you will see a complete different Ovia south west that can compete with city centres across Nigeria. As an engineer I love good environment,” he said.
Speaking further, the chairman of NUJ, Edo council, Festus Alenkhe admonished journalists in the state to pro conducive environment when writing their report.
Other activities to mark the event was lectures delivered on the topic by the vice Chancellor of Glorious Vision University, Ogwa Prof Ezekiel Asemah and presentation of another award to the vice Chancellor of Edo University, Uzairue, Engr. Prof Emmanuel Aluyor.
