Rotary International Club RC Gwagwalada, have donated over 10 trycles to Polio victims and rendered free medical outreach to women and the less privileged in Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT.
Rotarian Gbenga Fadare (PHF), the club president while donating the trycles to the Polio victims at Primary Healthcare Kutunku community, said the gesture is aimed at giving hope and to reach out to the lesss privileged at the rural communities.
According to him, the outreach project titled ‘Rotary Family Health Day’ was part of activities to commemorate the Rotary 2020 Family Health Day to impact communities within Nigeria.
Fadare said, “Rotary has a day set aside to take care of families in communities around the world in our own little way and we carry out referrals to cases that cannot be solved immediately.
“I will encourage other bodies and NGO’s to pick up this challenge of attending to communities to reach out to the grassroots to feel their impact and promote good will because government cannot do everything.
“Rotary has been doing that all over the world and promoting goodwill; In our own little way we can make our environment peaceful.
“We chose this community because we discovered it is within our fellowship area; we also realised, from needs assessment, it needed support
“I also encourage the beneficiaries to make good use of the items giving to them and try to stay out of trouble, they should also go for regular medical check-up so that they can remain healthy,” he said.
However, he, furter explained that the Rotary Family Health Day is an annual event often carried out to support humanity and less privileged people in rural-urban communities.
In a separate interview, Dr Adeyemi Adeniran, the Director of Health Gwagwalada Area Council, appreciated the Rotary Club for its support in improving the wellbeing of community residents.
The Director commended the Rotary Club for selecting kutunku community as one of the centres for its ‘Rotary Family Health Day activities.
He expressed appreciation for the support to ensure Polio victims, women and girls in the community live healthy and thought to imbibe basic hygiene practice.
“I am so happy and elated with the donation and it goes beyond the donation that they have made because it is something they do every year to impact on lives at the grassroot.
“The corporate organisations should come to the grassroot because Primary Healthcare takes Health services to the doorstep of the common people which is the right thing to do,” he said.
A beneficiary, Zainab Usman, expressed appreciation to the Rotary Club for the donation and free medical outreach to ease the burden and hardship often experienced in the community.
Usman said, “I thank them for everything they have done for us, they have helped the Polio victims in our community to save their money, I really appreciate their kind gesture to us.”
The medical outreach included; diabetes and glucose screening, De-worming of children, sanitary towels for girls, eye cataract test, insecticide treated net distribution, malaria screening and treatment and family counselling.
