A Nigerian diasporan, Mr Jerome Okoh, has called on the Federal Government to implement a comprehensive grassroots data infrastructure to boost security, economic management, and job creation.
Okoh, an economist, made the appeal in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, stressing the importance of a reliable database of citizens from the ward to the national level.
He proposed the establishment of the Basic Registry and Information System in Nigeria (BRISIN), describing it as an integrated data infrastructure designed to enable real-time data governance.

“Although the Federal Government signed a service agreement in 2007, implementation has stalled,” Okoh said.
He noted that BRISIN could help address Nigeria’s pressing development challenges, including insecurity, unemployment, and corruption, by providing accurate data for planning and decision-making.
“The project is expected to create up to 10 million jobs and generate N1.5 trillion annually in internally generated revenue,” he added.
Okoh urged the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning to support the implementation of BRISIN, citing global leaders’ insistence that Nigeria must establish a citizen database to combat criminality and build a credible, data-driven economy.
