The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has inaugurated a digital learning centre in Yobe State under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme (SIP).
The facility, located at Shehu Sule College of Nursing in Damaturu, was equipped in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
Speaking at the event, Tinubu, represented by Hafsat Kollere, wife of Governor Mai Mala Buni, noted that nine other digital learning centres had been established across the country, including in Abia, Edo, Delta, Katsina, Lagos, Nassarawa, Kano, Ondo, and Zamfara states.
She added that the RHI, in partnership with NITDA, also constructed and equipped four community Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres, naming them after notable women who contributed to national development. These centres are located in Bauchi, Ilorin, Lagos, and Benue states.
“In total, 15 ICT centres have been established by the RHI and equipped by NITDA across the country to expand digital literacy,” Tinubu said.
The First Lady emphasized that increasing access to digital skills would enhance participation in the digital economy, a key priority of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. She added that this initiative would accelerate economic diversification through industrialization and digitalization.
Tinubu urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the facilities to enhance learning, creativity, and entrepreneurship, thereby improving livelihoods.
In his remarks, Dr. Mohammad Gana, Yobe State Commissioner of Health, highlighted the importance of technology in healthcare, noting that it is no longer optional but essential. He explained that digital tools help improve diagnosis, manage healthcare facilities efficiently, and prevent financial leakages, among other benefits.
