Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has commissioned the newly rehabilitated Sokoto Geographic Information System (SOGIS) Centre, marking what he described as a “new era” in digital land administration and transparency in the state.
The upgraded centre, equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and automation tools, was commissioned on Monday by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, whom Governor Aliyu thanked for honouring the invitation and commissioning his second project in Sokoto within the space of days.
“This commissioning is not just the opening of a facility—it is the unveiling of a transformative platform that will drive efficiency, transparency, and innovation in land governance across Sokoto State,” Aliyu stated at the event.
The rehabilitation and upgrade of the SOGIS Centre was completed for N698.4 million, with the aim of modernizing land title issuance, improving service delivery, and creating a transparent, investor-friendly environment.

According to the governor, the revamped SOGIS now features: Automated Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) Processing, enabling applicants to receive their certificates within two weeks. Personalized Digital Dashboards for applicants to track their applications in real time, Digitally Secured Certificates with barcodes for instant verification and legal security, and Durable Certificate Materials, waterproof and tamper-resistant, to ensure long-term document protection.
“This project is a testament to what we can achieve when vision is backed by commitment and strategic action,” Aliyu declared. “Sokoto State now leads in digital land governance in Nigeria, and we are proud of that achievement.”
The governor noted that beyond being a system, SOGIS sends a strong message to prospective investors: Sokoto is open for sustainable urban development and economic growth.
He expressed appreciation to engineers, professionals, and public servants who made the project a reality, describing their efforts as instrumental in shaping the “Sokoto of our dreams.”
“To the people of Sokoto, this centre is yours. Use it wisely, and let it serve the best interests of our state as we build a smarter and more transparent administration,” he concluded.
The SOGIS upgrade aligns with the administration’s broader Smart Agenda reforms, which aim to modernize governance, attract investment, and improve service delivery across all sectors.
