President Bola Tinubu will on Thursday, August 14, embark on a two-nation working visit to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said Tinubu’s first engagement will be in Yokohama, Japan, where he will attend the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) from August 20 to 22.
Themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, TICAD9 will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, boosting private investment, promoting innovation, and building a resilient, sustainable society anchored on peace, stability, and human security.
During the conference, Tinubu will hold bilateral meetings and engage with top executives of Japanese companies with existing or potential investments in Nigeria.
Established in 1993 by the Japanese government, TICAD9 is co-hosted by the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission, and the World Bank. It is held every three years, alternating between Japan and Africa.
Following the TICAD9 summit, Tinubu will travel to Brasilia, Brazil, for a two-day state visit from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
While in Brazil, Tinubu is scheduled to meet with President Lula and participate in a business forum with Brazilian investors. His delegation—comprising key ministers and senior government officials—will explore new areas of cooperation and sign agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Brazilian government.
