President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently meeting behind closed doors with heads of security and paramilitary operatives under the aegis of the National Security Council.
The meeting is being held at the President’s office in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, is leading the service chiefs and other military and paramilitary heads to the meeting.
Also in attendance are Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, among others.
The meeting follows protests against hunger and bad governance, which have continued despite President Tinubu’s appeal to suspend the action.
In a national broadcast on Sunday, the President pleaded with the organizers of the nationwide protests to suspend them, especially as they had turned violent in some states, resulting in the loss of lives and the destruction of property.
President Tinubu acknowledged the grievances of the protesters and warned that he would not sit and watch as some individuals, allegedly used by opposition politicians, attempted to undermine the country’s democracy.
However, the protesters argued that the President did not address their demands in his nationwide broadcast, leading them to continue their actions against the government.
