ASHENEWS reports that at least 74 persons were hospitalised while about 100 vehicles were reportedly vandalised when hoodlums attacked the campaign convoy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital on Wednesday.
The presidential campaign trail of the opposition party landed in Borno, an All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled state on Wednesday, the 9th of November 2022.
The PDP campaign spokesperson, Senator Dino Melaye disclosed this during the party rally in Maiduguri.
He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of deploying thugs to attack them and stop the party’s presidential campaign in the state.
Melaye further alleged that the thugs attacked the convoy with stones, sticks, machetes as they left the Shehu of Borno Palace to the Ramat Square, all in an attempt to stop the rally.
He lamented that “the thugs were deployed in many strategic locations to attack our supporters.”
In a viral video seen on social media, a group of people were seen running in different directions as gunshots rent the air.
Several vehicles in the convoy of Atiku were vandalised at Ramat Square in Maiduguri, the state capital.
According to the eye witness who spoke to ASHENEWS under the condition of anonymity, “so many people were severely wounded and close to 100 vehicles also vandalized.”
