The political landscape in Oyo State witnessed a notable shift on Monday with the appointment of Olufemi Onireti as Director-General of the City Boy Movement in the state—a grassroots mobilisation platform backing Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The appointment was announced in Abuja on Tuesday by the movement’s national Director-General, Francis Shoga, during the formal presentation of the appointment letter.
The development comes days after Onireti resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he was an active member and a former House of Representatives candidate.

His emergence is expected to reinvigorate the group’s operations and expand its grassroots outreach ahead of future political engagements in the state.
According to the movement’s leadership, Onireti’s selection was based on his “wide political network, proven organisational capacity, and strong presence among youth and grassroots stakeholders.”
Speaking to journalists, Onireti expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him and pledged to leverage his experience to advance the movement’s objectives in Oyo.
He described his defection as a personal decision influenced by ongoing political realignments and his commitment to supporting a broader progressive coalition at both state and national levels.
Onireti added that his appointment followed extensive consultations and alignment with his supporters, assuring that his leadership would emphasise inclusiveness, strategic mobilisation, and effective communication.
“I am committed to galvanising our structures and ensuring that Oyo State remains a stronghold for the ideals we stand for,” he said.
Observers say the appointment could reshape mobilisation dynamics in the state, given Onireti’s influence and recent political shift.
The City Boy Movement, a prominent youth-driven platform promoting the President’s Renewed Hope agenda, is expected to unveil a new operational roadmap in the coming days as it strengthens its national structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
