The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Enugu Unit, says it will enforce fuel pump integrity across filling stations under its coverage to curb cheating and other sharp practices.
Chairman of the unit, Chief Chinedu Anyaso, disclosed this on Sunday in Enugu after the association’s 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM). The unit covers independent marketers in Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and parts of Abia, Imo, Kogi, and Cross River states.
Anyaso said members unanimously resolved to set up a task force in September to ensure compliance with fuel pump standards. “IPMAN members agreed that cheating at the pump must stop. Any defaulter will face heavy fines and sanctions,” he stated.
He stressed that the association would deploy internal disciplinary measures to protect its reputation, just as it previously eliminated bad fuel stockpiling among members.
The meeting also addressed long-standing issues with the Anambra State Government, including a debt of over N900 million owed to IPMAN members for diesel supplied to power streetlights. Anyaso lamented that despite repeated appeals, the debt remains unpaid, forcing members into financial distress.
“Within months, eight of our members in Anambra have died from stress due to pressure from financial institutions. Some have lost their stations to banks, while many others have shut down and laid off staff,” he said.
Anyaso urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to resolve the dispute over fuel station levies and the outstanding debt through dialogue, warning that failure to act could trigger a fuel supply crisis.
He cautioned that if members resort to strike, petrol prices in the state could skyrocket to between ₦2,000 and ₦3,000 per litre, worsening hardship for citizens.
The AGM also discussed welfare, improved product lifting, and participation in initiatives such as the Dangote Direct Sales and Delivery Scheme and JEZCO Oil and Gas support for members. Presentations were made by the Federal Inland Revenue Service on e-tax filing and TradeGrid Limited on solar power installation and product lifting solutions.
