The rank of SAN is awarded as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession who have distinguished themselves as advocates and academics
The Nigeria’s Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee has elevated nine professors of law, three lawyers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and 50 others to the position of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).
The 62 who were elevated at LPPC’s 154th plenary session held on September 29, were sworn in by Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN) Justice Olukayode Ariwoola on Monday in Abuja.
The law professors are Kathleen Okafor, Muhammed Abdulrasaq, Amokaye Gabriel, Ismail Olatunbosun, Abdullahi Zuru, Joy Ezeilo, Theodore Maiyaki, Olaide Gbadamosi and Chimezie Okorie.
The three EFCC lawyers are Mr Wahab Shitu, Mr Sylvanus Tahir and Mr Rotimi Oyedepo.
Others elevated to membership of the inner bar are Mr Bankole Akomolafe, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, Mr Johnson Omophe, Lawrence Oko-Jaja, Mr Christopher Sunday -Oshomegie and Mr Sanusi Olugbenga- Said.
Other new SANs are Mr Emmanuel Oboh, Mr Diri Mohammed, Mr Oladipo Tolani, Mr Ayodeji Omotoso, Mr Chijioke Erondu, Mr Ajoku Obinna, Mr Yakubu Maikasuwa, Mr Henry Omu and Mr Dagogo Iboroma.
Also on the list are Mr Joseph Akubo, Mr Gozie Obi, Mr Inam Wilson, Mr Abubakar Sulu-Gambari, Mr Abioye Oloyede -Asanike, Mr Bolarinwa Aidi, Mr Tonye Jenewari -Krukrubo, Mr Aderemi Nashua, Mr Kolapo Kolade and Mr SamuelPeter Karigbo.
Also elevated are Mr Ifeanyichukwu Obiakor, Mr Olasoji Olowolafe, Mr Mutalubi Adebayo, Mr Victor Ogude, Mr Sulayman Ibrahim, Mr Mumini Hanafi, Mr Tanko Ashang, Mr Damian Okoro, Mr Andrew Malgwi and Mr Etukwu Onah.
The LPPC list also has Mr Adeboro Adamson, Mr Kelechi Obi, Mr Andrew Osemedua- Odum, Mr Okoro Okechukwu -Edwin, Mr Godson Ugochukwu, Mr Steven Ononye, Mr Ikani Kanu-Agabi, Mr Mustapha Ibrahim and Mr Muzudeen Abdullahi.
Also elevated are Mr Magaji Ibrahim, Mr Sunusi Musa, Mr Oladoyin Awoyale, Mr Chukwudubem Anyigbo, Mr Lukman Oyebanji -Fagbemi and Mr Michael Numa.
