U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a sharp warning to tech billionaire Elon Musk, cautioning him against supporting Democratic candidates in future elections, stating that doing so would result in “serious consequences.”
In a recent televised interview, Trump confirmed that his alliance with Musk has ended. The former president’s comment comes amid growing tensions over a controversial spending bill, which Musk publicly condemned, calling it a “disgusting abomination” and criticizing its impact on the national debt.
Trump responded with veiled threats, implying that federal contracts and government incentives awarded to Musk’s companies—such as Tesla and SpaceX—could be at risk if Musk throws his support behind Trump’s political rivals.
“If he does, he’ll have to pay very serious consequences,” Trump stated, suggesting that Musk’s business interests could suffer if he backs Democrats.
The fallout between the two high-profile figures deepened after Musk posted, and later deleted, a claim on social media referring to Trump’s alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein’s inner circle. Trump dismissed the reference as “old news” and irrelevant.
Trump was direct when asked if there was any chance of reconciliation with the billionaire entrepreneur. “No… I have no intention of speaking to him,” he said flatly.
Vice President JD Vance also weighed in, describing Musk’s criticism of the bill as a “huge mistake” but hinted that the situation could still be salvaged—if Musk changes his tune.
The standoff has already rattled markets, with Tesla stock taking a notable hit and political observers warning that the clash could have broader implications for both the 2024 election cycle and U.S. industrial policy.
As debate continues over the proposed legislation, the growing rift between Trump and Musk could reshape the alignment of powerful business and political interests heading into the 2026 midterms and beyond.
