The Zamfara Primary Health Care Board on Monday appealed to parents and guardians to make their children available for the state-wide vaccination against the polio virus.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Hussaini Yakubu, made the call on Monday in Gusau at a one-day Media sensitisation meeting for the upcoming routine immunisation exercise scheduled to commence on Dec.14.
Yakubu, represented by the Deputy Director of Administration of the board, Suwaiba Lawal noted that the vaccinated children have a high chance of living a healthy and longer life.
He said that the vaccines were safe and free of charge, urging residents of the state to support events towards the success of the exercise.
Yakubu called on the fathers to involve in taking their children for vaccination.
He described the meeting as timely considering the role of the media in sensitising people on the significance of immunisation exercise.
Also speaking, the UNICEF official, Kulu Sanda, urged media practitioners to redouble their efforts in enlightening parents and the public on the importance of routine immunisation of their children.
Sanda emphasized that vaccines for immunisation were free to all children; therefore, parents should allow their children to receive the immunization.
Earlier, the Health Educator of the board, Kabiru Danja, said the aim of the meeting was to interact with the media and review routine immunization exercises in the state.
Danja appealed to media practitioners to continue supporting immunisation programmes and other primary healthcare activities in the state.
