The Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (OSPHCDA) has announced plans to vaccinate 2.2 million children across the state’s 18 Local Government Areas against measles and rubella.
Dr. Francis Akanbiemu, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, disclosed this on Thursday during a media sensitization on the upcoming vaccination exercise. He was represented by Dr. Victor Adefesoye, Director of Disease Control and Immunization.
The vaccination campaign is scheduled to run from January 20 to January 29, 2026, targeting children aged nine months to 14 years. Akanbiemu assured that the vaccines would be administered through safe injections with no adverse effects.
He added that the agency has put measures in place to address the challenges in each community to ensure a smooth exercise. “There are punishments under the law for individuals, organizations, or groups that attempt to impede the vaccination campaign,” he said. He urged parents and guardians to make their children available for the free vaccination programme.
Also speaking, Mrs. Florence Fadiji, the State Immunization Officer, said there would be both fixed and mobile vaccination posts to reach the targeted children. She called on media organizations to collaborate with the agency to publicize the exercise and emphasize its benefits in safeguarding the health and wellness of children.
