The Sultan of Sokoto’s Foundation for Peace and Development has partnered with Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) to boost education, healthcare delivery, and youth empowerment across Nigeria.
The agreement was announced during a courtesy visit by the Foundation’s delegation, led by its Director, Malam Muhammad, to YABATECH’s Council Chamber.
Muhammad said the Foundation, established in 2014 by Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, supports communities affected by insecurity, poverty, and inequality. He highlighted partnerships with UNICEF, UN Women, the Malala Foundation, and the Bill Gates Foundation on projects covering immunisation, women’s rights, and access to quality education.
He also revealed plans to establish Nigeria’s first all-female university in Sokoto, focused on nursing, laboratory sciences, and healthcare courses to address the shortage of medical professionals.
YABATECH Rector, Dr Ibraheem Abdul, praised the Foundation’s initiatives, stressing that both institutions share a vision of service and community impact. He cited YABATECH’s ICT training for girls with UNICEF and joint medical outreaches with Albasar International.
Abdul voiced concern over rising drug abuse among boys, disclosing that YABATECH is developing rehabilitation and reintegration programmes. He also revealed that the College is exploring a medical university to bridge gaps in healthcare training.
Both institutions expressed confidence that the partnership will drive sustainable progress in education, health, and youth development nationwide.
