The Sokoto State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Dadi-Adare, has urged local government chairmen to mobilize their communities for the ongoing Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign.
Dadi-Adare emphasized the importance of their involvement as community leaders, role models, and mediators in addressing resistance and challenges faced by immunization workers.
The commissioner made the call during an interactive session with local government chairmen in Sokoto, stressing the need to engage community leaders to ensure the success of the exercise aimed at protecting children from deadly but preventable diseases.
“The ongoing vaccination against measles, rubella, poliomyelitis, and other preventable diseases is in the public interest. I urge our people to cooperate fully with the vaccination teams,” he said.
He described the campaign as vital to safeguarding the health and future of children across the state’s 23 local government areas.
“This campaign is about protecting our children. The simplest and surest way to keep them safe from diseases like measles and rubella is through vaccination. I urge our council chairmen and all partners in this exercise to give it the seriousness it deserves. Every child must be vaccinated to remain safe and protected,” he added.
Dadi-Adare explained that the campaign was part of a broader national initiative to improve vaccination coverage and promote community ownership of public health programmes.
He assured that the state government was ready to tackle any challenges during the exercise, adding that his ministry was working closely with the Ministry of Health to ensure smooth implementation.
According to him, the government is deploying effective strategies to reach remote communities and collaborating with stakeholders to overcome logistical and social barriers.
The commissioner noted that the state government had intensified its outreach efforts through awareness campaigns in churches, mosques, schools, markets, and other public spaces to ensure maximum coverage.
The integrated campaign targets thousands of children across Sokoto State, covering measles, rubella, and other child-killer diseases, as part of renewed efforts to improve child health and reduce preventable deaths.
