The Sokoto State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruku Umar Abubakar Wurno, has issued a two-week ultimatum for unauthorized occupants of staff quarters within hospitals across the state to vacate the premises or face eviction.
Dr. Abubakar gave the directive during an unscheduled inspection visit to General Hospitals in Wurno, Tangaza, and Binji Local Government Areas.
He noted that many of these quarters are currently occupied by non-staff, thereby depriving active healthcare personnel of essential accommodation within hospital premises.
He emphasized that providing hospital staff with on-site housing is crucial for ensuring efficient service delivery and prompt medical attention for patients.
During his visit to General Hospital Wurno, the Commissioner expressed displeasure over the poor sanitary conditions and urged immediate improvements.
He directed hospital authorities to channel all challenges through the State Hospital Services Management Board for necessary action.
Dr. Abubakar commended local communities for their support and involvement in hospital activities, acknowledging their contributions to healthcare services.
At General Hospitals in Tangaza and Binji, the Commissioner inspected various wards and assured staff that the state government is committed to addressing challenges hindering hospital operations.
He also announced the government’s approval for procuring an ultrasound machine for General Hospital Tangaza to enhance medical services.
Accompanying the Commissioner on the visit were the Executive Director of the Hospital Services Management Board, Dr. Bello Abubakar Attahiru, as well as directors from the Ministry of Health and the Hospital Services Management Board, among other officials.
