The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called off its strike just two days after it began.
The strike, which started on Friday, was suspended on Saturday night. Members were told to return to work on Sunday.
NARD President, Dr. Tope Osundara, confirmed the decision in a WhatsApp message. He said some of their demands had been met, while the government promised to address the remaining issues.
“Strike suspended; resumption to work tomorrow (today). We did this as a sign of goodwill and to assist Nigerians who are seeking healthcare in our various facilities,” Osundara explained.
He did not give details of the specific demands that were resolved.
Among the doctors’ demands are the immediate payment of the outstanding 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund and settlement of five months’ salary arrears from the 25–35 per cent review of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure.
They are also asking for the payment of the 2024 accoutrement allowance arrears, timely disbursement of specialist allowances, and recognition of the West African postgraduate membership certificates by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
