The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs. Tamununini Makinde, on Thursday visited the first baby of the year at Adeoyo Maternity Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan.
Represented by the Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, Makinde also visited two other newborns at Adaramagbo Primary Health Centre, Olomi, and Moniya General Hospital, presenting gifts to each of them.
The first baby, a boy delivered via caesarean section by Mrs. Bilikisu Lamidi at 12:01 a.m., weighed 3.6kg. The second, a girl weighing 3.1kg, was delivered by Mrs. Rihanat Olajire at 12:46 a.m. at Adaramagbo PHC, Olomi. The third, a boy weighing 3kg, was born to Mrs. Ummukhairi Musa at 4:50 a.m. at Moniya General Hospital, Ibadan.
While celebrating with the families, Makinde presented N300,000 to the first baby’s family, N250,000 to the second, and N200,000 to the third. She also gifted hampers containing baby items, with other newborns at the hospitals receiving cash gifts as well.
Makinde urged mothers to care for their children properly and to practice six months of exclusive breastfeeding, noting its benefits alongside immunization. She also advised parents to refrain from cursing their children, encouraging them instead to pray for their well-being.
Appreciating the work of caregivers, doctors, and nurses, Makinde encouraged them to continue their dedication in the new year. “The governor’s wife team is here today to wish the mothers, fathers, and families of the newborn babies a wonderful new year and to congratulate them on the arrival of the babies,” she said.
One of the mothers, Mrs. Olajire, thanked the governor’s wife and her team for the visit and gifts.
